Jazz singer Claudia Acuña's recent appearances at Joe's Pub revealed that she's taking an
exciting new direction. With a band that features guitarist Juancho Herrera, bassist Carlos
Henderson and Yayo on drums, in addition to longtime collaborator pianist Jason Linder, Acu–a is
on the verge of creating a style reminiscent of the best of the jazz-fusion era (think Flora Purim) but
with an entirely contemporary feel. Some dazzling new songs, anchored by classics such as the
bolero "La Mentira" and Victor Jara's "Te Recuerdo Amanda," are given life by funk, flamenco and
tropical rock influences...
